National LGBT Health Awareness Week

Schedule of local events

The first annual National Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Health Awareness Week starts on Sunday, March 16. Local sponsors include Whitman-Walker Clinic, The Mautner Project for Lesbians with Cancer, and The National Latina/o Lesbian, Gay Bisexual & Transgender Organization (LLEGO). The following events are among those scheduled for Washington, D.C.

Crystal Meth & the LGBT Community — A community forum, with information on crystal meth, and how it affects the body and mind. Monday, March 17, 7:30 to 9 p.m. at Whitman-Walker Clinic, 1407 S St. NW.

Out to Quit — Smoking cessation workshop for the LGBT community. Tips and techniques for quitting, and for supporting those who want to quit. Tuesday, March 18, 7 to 8 p.m., Elizabeth Taylor Medical Center, Conference Room 4, 1701 14th St. NW.

Hepatitis A & B Screening — At Whitman-Walker Clinic’s Elizabeth Taylor Medical Center, 1701 14th St. NW, Saturday, March 22, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Courage, Strength and Wisdom — An exhibit by artist Cindy Spreoul, March 17-21, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, hosted by The Mautner Project, 1707 L St. NW, Suite 230.

Walking on Water — One in Ten Reel Affirmations Xtra screening of Walking on Water, a “refreshingly unsentimental story about how people deal with loss and grief from AIDS. ” 7 and 9:15 p.m. at the Jewish Community Center’s Goldman Theater, 1529 16th St. NW. Box office opens at 6 p.m. Tickets $8.
