Equality Maryland hires new Executive Director

Equality Maryland has announced that Kate Runyon, of Ann Arbor, Mich., will be taking over as the GLBT-advocacy group’s new executive director. The former interim executive director of Michigan’s equal-rights organization, Triangle Foundation, Runyon will lead Equality Maryland beginning Dec. 8.

”[Kate’s] six years of executive experience with LGBT organizations, ability to build quick rapport with community, and knowledge of the political and social landscapes in which LGBT Americans work makes her an ideal leader for us,” Equality Maryland Board President Scott Davenport said in a related release.

In addition to serving as chair of the Triangle Foundation’s People of Faith and Allies & Diversity Committee, Runyon has served as the executive director of the Oasis Ministry, an Episcopal GLBT outreach program in Michigan. She has also served as a board member with the Michigan Coalition for Human Rights.

Runyon will be taking over for Dan Furmansky, who has led the organization for five years. He announced in May that he would be stepping down.
