Ken Kwapis turns in a romantic dud

Here are the facts of life according to He’s Just Not That Into You: Women are pathetic and hopeless in love; the only way to be a self-empowered woman is to seduce a married man; men are dicks; married men are lying, cheating dicks; if a guy is interested in a woman, he’ll let her know; if he’s not interested, better luck next time; and girlfriends give horrible dating advice.

HE’S JUST NOT THAT INTO YOU
starstar
Starring Ben Affleck, Jennifer Aniston
Rated PG-13
129 Minutes
Opens Friday at area theaters

Based on the novel by Greg Behrendt and Liz Tuccillo, this meandering story follows the lives of lovelorn Baltimoreans who are hopeless in their attempts to find happiness. The film is packed with stars (Ben Affleck, Jennifer Aniston, Drew Barrymore, Jennifer Connelly, Bradley Cooper, Ginnifer Goodwin, Justin Long, Scarlett Johansson) and stereotypes (women with low self-esteem and some flaming gays) for good measure.

Director Ken Kwapis barely manages to piece together all the interwoven stories, and his slow pacing causes a bad thing to last way longer than it should. If rated on an ”Aww” factor, there are enough happy endings to make this one a winner. Otherwise, don’t suffer through the horrible conversations and awkward pauses because He’s Just Not That Into You deserves to be stood up.
