Capital Pride 2009 Director

Welcome to Capital Pride 2009!

On behalf of the entire staff, board, and volunteers of Capital Pride it with great pleasure that I welcome you to the 34th Annual Capital Pride celebration: Generations of Pride: Celebrate and Remember — Stonewall at 40.

We are excited about all of this year’s events and activities, which together showcase the rich diversity of the National Capital area’s LGBT community. The celebration encompasses nearly three dozen events — from speakers, meetings, and faith services to dances, parties, the Festival, and DC’s Best Parade (named by the Washington City Paper’s Readers Poll). Capital Pride 2009 is truly an event for and by the LGBT Community.

We are particularly honored by the twenty organizations that have joined Capital Pride this year as Community Partners:

Brother Help Thyself, Capital Area Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce, DC Area Metropolitan Community Churches, The DC Center/Crystal Meth Working Group, D.C.’s Different Drummers, Destination DC, Dignity/Washington, Episcopal Diocese of Washington, Food & Friends, Gay Men’s Chorus of Washington, Gertrude Stein Democratic Club, GLBT Arts Consortium, Hillwood Estate, Museum & Gardens, Human Rights Campaign, Log Cabin & DC Republicans, National Gay and Lesbian Task Force, The National Trust for Historic Preservation, PFLAG of Metro DC, Team DC, Washington DC JCC Gay & Lesbian Outreach and Engagement (GLOE).

Many of these organizations have scheduled affiliated events that you can find on the following pages, but all are organizations committed to shaping the visibility, diversity, strength, and vibrancy of our Community. Capital Pride would not be the event it is without their leadership and support.

It takes a village to produce and organize Capital Pride every year — the village that is the LGBT Community and our allies. Take a few moments to review this guide, identify the events and activities you would like to participate in, and please remember to thank and support all the individuals, organizations, and corporations who have brought you Capital Pride 2009.

Thanks, and Enjoy!
