Capital Pride 2010 may be more than half a year away, but organizers are already starting to hum. Following a recent announcement that the Capital Pride board just started accepting nominations, the online sign-up for 2010 volunteers went live Oct. 30. The same day, organizers announced the them for 2010, the 35th annual celebration: “You Ain’t Seen Nothing Yet.”
“We are preparing once again to welcome more than 250,000 people to our street festival, expect even more contingents and floats in our parade and will be adding even more diverse events and activities in 2010,” Capital Pride Executive Director Dyana Mason said in a release announcing the year’s theme.
The 2010 celebration of LGBT pride will begin June 4 and culminate with a parade Saturday, June 12, and street festival Sunday, June 13.
Rick Oettinger, a past parade volunteer, will this year be heading up the 2010 volunteer recruitment and advises that anyone interested should sign up anew, regardless of past involvement. He also promises that with nine distinct committees managing every aspect of Capital Pride, there is a job for everyone.
“I think we had about 250 volunteers in the end last year,” he says. “We’d like about 300. Of course, we’d love more.”
