Ann Coulter calls MSNBC host ‘retarded’ for grilling gay conservative on air [video]

Chris Barron

”I’m not just a Republican, I’m a conservative Republican…. While I was born gay, I wasn’t born to believe government has all the answers…. I completely and totally reject that [notion that the Republican party does not like gays]. For the second year in a row, participating in CPAC…

”No, the Republican party hasn’t always been welcoming to gays. What I’m telling you right now is the conservative movement — the conservative movement is absolutely welcoming to gay people…. I have an easier time being openly gay with the conservatives than being conservative with other gay people. That’s the truth….

”You wouldn’t have had ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’ repeal if it werent for those Republican votes.”

The leader of a conservative gay Republican organization responding last week to MSNBC TV host, Cenk Uygur, who asked: “On what planet” have conservatives been welcoming of gay people?

Ann CoulterThat broadcast was followed by a Twitter exchange between the gay Republican and his conservative associate, Ann Coulter:

AnnCouter: Great video: head of GOProud interviewed by retarded person on MSNBC – http://bit.ly/h1mvwq

AnnCoulter: Again: Our gays are so much mas macho than their straights.

ChrisRBarron: Happy New Years to @AnnCoulter the only person I know who pisses off the gay left more than me!

AnnCoulter: Thank you, it’s nothing … @ChrisRBarron

This past September, Coulter spoke as part of the gay Republican group’s fundraiser. She told the gay and lesbian crowd that they had no civil right to marriage because “you’re not black.”

The Young TurksThe always-passionate and progressive Uygur followed up Coulter’s tweets on his daily web show, The Young Turks. He quite logically took exception to the notion that Republican votes were necessary for the repeal of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell“:

”I thought that Sarah Palin had banned that word — so, are Palin and Coulter going to go to war over this? [shrug]…. ”

”You can be greedy and be gay at the same time — sure! You want lower taxes for the rich? I got it…. You can be gay and for killing people senselessly in Iraq as well. It’s not a good idea, but you can be, right? But that isn’t the issue, and you can be conservative all you want — just being Republican doesn’t make any sense! ….

”[The] overwhelming majority of Republicans voted against repealing ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.’ Only 15 Republicans voted in favor in the House, [over a hundred] voted against it.  In the Senate, only eight Republicans voted for repeal. All the rest, the great majority — over 75% voted in the other direction, right? … the Democrats, who almost all voted for it….

”The only reason they needed any Republican votes is because the Republican party was filibustering. If the Republican party didn’t filibuster it, then they could have passed it with only Democratic votes. They didn’t need a single Republican vote!”

Cenk Uygur regularly confesses he was a Republican before he became a fiery progressive. In 2010, he became a new addition to the MSNBC’s lineup of commentators and news hosts. His own web show can be viewed weeknights from 6-9 EST at TheYoungTurks.com. Uygur and co-host Ana Kasparian regularly discuss politics and oddball news stories in hilarious, uncensored ways.
