”Choose from a selection of Gay Pride t-shirts available at 27 stores through June 30th – or until they sell out. For a list of stores check out: http://on.fb.me/lRfhZ5. With your support, we can create a prosperous and happy future for our LGBT youth.”
A Facebook announcement by Old Navy says that rainbow-themed t-shirts will be available at “Select U.S. stores only” beginning on Wednesday, June 1. The event is called “Love Proudly: Pride 2011.” Many of the commentors on the site like the idea, but they are frustrated by the limited distribution. Indications are that the shirts will not be available online.
There are two designs circulating on the internet — one white tee with the words “Love Proudly” repeated in rainbow colors, the second is a swath of rainbow stripes on a black tee. Both are emblazoned with an Old Navy logo.
The short list of 27 stores does include one store locally:
Tysons Corner Center
1961 Chain Bridge Road
Mclean, VA 22102
A post on the official Twitter feed for Old Navy said:
”Luv our LGBT fans! Check out our lmtd edition Gay Pride ’11 tees & 10% of all sales will go the It Gets Better Project! http://cot.ag/jrc45Y”
The gay youth support organization It Gets Better Project confirms on its Facebook page that it will receive 10% of the proceeds. Old Navy is a branch of the Gap, Inc. And if last year’s “Legalize Gay” t-shirts from competing clothier American Apparel can serve as an indicator of interest, the “Love Proudly” t-shirts ought to be quite popular.
