Review: Hyatt Key West Resort and Spa

Southernmost.jpgTo simply call Key West, Florida, a gay-friendly destination is a disservice. The southernmost city in the continental United States is a destination for everyone — gay, straight and everything in between.

As a matter of fact, more than a decade ago, Key West passed the One Human Family proclamation stating that “all other people are our equals,” and urged everyone to “grow beyond the artificial limitations of racism, nationalism, sexism, classism, monotheism, prejudice, homophobia (and every other illusion used to try to separate us all from being equal).”

For those who have visited, they know that many visitors have grown beyond wearing clothes too. However, I’ll save that discussion for another time and not spoil the surprise for those who have yet to experience Key West in all its glory.

When it comes to places for LGBT visitors to stay, the Hyatt Key West Resort and Spa embodies the One Human Family philosophy without exception.

Hyatt.jpgLocated waterside just steps from the famous Mallory Square and Duval Street, the hotel recently completed a $10 million renovation. There are 118 guest rooms, with most offering wonderful views of hotel pool and the Gulf of Mexico; on-site fine dining at SHOR; and a small fitness center and spa.

Many of the hotel’s management team and staff are gay and active in the local community. In addition, it is a TAG Approved property and a member of the International Gay and Lesbian Travel Association.
