Joey Arias and Paddy Boom at L’Enfant Cafe

2012 03 01 music 7108 7015

Following on its insanely popular brunch house party La Boum every Saturday and the annual Bastille Day French Maid Relay Race, L’Enfant Café and Bar offers the Speak Easy Sunday Supper Club and Cabaret, a new social dining event on select Sundays each month. Speak Easy transforms the space into a Prohibition Era venue — complete with back door entrance, dim lighting and drawn shades — serving drinks, a three-course dinner and a live show that’s very of this century, with singing drag queens, comedians and DJs spinning dance tunes. New York singing drag queen legend Joey Arias stars and co-produces the show, and this Sunday, March 11, Arias will be accompanied by noted jazz bassist Ben Allison and guitarist Brandon Seabrook. Paddy Boom, the original drummer for the Scissor Sisters, will serve as the evening’s DJ, likely ending things in a vibrant dance party. This Sunday, March 11 at L’Enfant Café and Bar, 2000 18th St. NW. Reservations are required; cost is $50 for the 7 p.m. dinner show, or $10 plus a two-drink minimum for the 10:30 p.m. late show. Call 202-319-1800 or visit lenfantcafe.com.

Photo is from Arias with a Twist, the artist’s collaboration with acclaimed puppeteer, Basil Twist. The show comes to Woolly Mammoth at the end of the month.
