McBride Preliminary Hearing Deferred

Court agrees to delay preliminary hearing for unrelated robbery charge against suspect in Stanton Road stabbing

The man arrested in connection with the brutal stabbing of a transgender woman in Southeast D.C.’s Fort Stanton neighborhood had his preliminary hearing on an unrelated charge of robbery continued, meaning he is not scheduled to appear in court until July 23.

Michael McBride, 23, of Washington, remains held without bond as he awaits trial on the robbery charge. The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) announced June 26 that they had arrested McBride in connection with the stabbing, which occurred in the 3000 block of Stanton Road around 1 a.m. on June 21.

The victim, who was stabbed anywhere from 35 to 40 times during the course of the attack, was transported to Prince George’s Hospital Center in Chevrly, Md., and treated for her injuries, including a punctured lung, before being released June 27.

According to a friend of the victim, who identified herself as Tammy, who shared her story at a June 28 community meeting to address recent anti-LGBT violence, the victim and her assailant had agreed to meet at an abandoned house. Tammy said it was only after a passerby asked the assailant what he was doing with a ”faggy,” the assailant attacked the woman and stabbed her before fleeing.

McBride has not been charged with any counts related to the stabbing.
