Guilty Plea in Stanton Road Stabbing

McBride to be sentenced early 2014 for stabbing transgender woman multiple times

Michael McBride, defendant in the case of a non-fatal attack on transgender woman who suffered 35 to 40 stab wounds, pleaded guilty earlier this month to a charge of aggravated assault while armed. McBride stabbed the victim in a June 21 assault in an abandoned building in the 3000 block of Stanton Road SE.

Not long after the attack, the victim was transported to Prince George’s Hospital Center in Cheverly, Md., where she was treated for her wounds, including a punctured lung. She was released six days later. According to statements by friends of the victim, McBride and the woman had previously known each other, but McBride only attacked the victim after a passerby asked him what he was doing with a ”faggy.”

Friday, McBride pleaded guilty to a charge unrelated to the stabbing, assault with a dangerous weapon (ADW). He remains held without bond as he awaits sentencing. His next D.C. Superior Court appearance is set for January 2014.

Under the D.C. Criminal Code, McBride could be fined up to $10,000 and sentenced for up to 10 years, in addition to a term of up to life imprisonment with a mandatory prison term of five, 10 or 15 years, based on his prior criminal record, for the charge of aggravated assault while armed. The maximum sentence for the ADW charge is 10 years.
