Vampires at the Ballet: Matthew Bourne’s Sleeping Beauty

Thumbnail image for Screen Shot 2013-11-12 at 3.36.03 PM.pngProvocative British choreographer Matthew Bourne — best known for his mostly male, Tony-winning version of Swan Lake — returns with his company New Adventures to present his latest re-imagining of a ballet classic, and another one set to Tchaikovsky. In Bourne’s hands, Sleeping Beauty becomes a gothic romance and supernatural love story, one sexier than the original. Oh, and complete with vampires. How au courant.

Opens tonight, Nov. 12, at 7:30 p.m. Runs to Sunday, Nov. 17. Kennedy Center Opera House. Tickets are $30 to $120. Call 202-467-4600 or visit kennedy-center.org.
