Freedom Nevada campaign launched to put same-sex marriage on 2016 ballot

“Freedom Nevada is a campaign to share stories and foster conversation — showing that every gay and lesbian person is part of someone’s family and should be treated with compassion and respect.”

Laura Martin, director of communications for Progressive Leadership Alliance of Nevada, in a statement at the launch of the Freedom Nevada campaign. Freedom Nevada, which is supported by the American Civil Liberties Union of Nevada, the Human Rights Campaign, Freedom to Marry, Progressive Leadership Alliance of Nevada and others, intends for the 2016 ballot to include a measure which will allow Nevadans to approve same-sex marriage. Its launch follows the state of Nevada dropping its defense of the state’s same-sex marriage ban earlier this week, citing the nation’s changing legal landscape as making the arguments for the state’s defense “no longer sustainable.”
