White House names new LGBT liaison

Aditi Hardikar has been named the new White House liaison to the LGBT community, according to an administration official.

Hardikar replaces Gautam Raghavan, who departed the Obama administration in September after more than five years to join the Gill Foundation as vice president of policy. 

In her new role, Hardikar serves as an associate director of public engagement in the Office of Public Engagement and serves as the primary liaison to the LGBT community as well as the Asian American and Pacific Islander community. Previously, Hardikar served as director of the LGBT Leadership Council and director of the AAPI Leadership Council for the Democratic National Committee, according to the White House. She also served as the LGBT finance director for the Presidential Inaugural Committee in 2013 and the deputy director of LGBT voter outreach and LGBT finance for Obama’s reelection campaign in 2012.

She previously worked for the Center for American Progress and is a graduate of he University of Michigan-Ann Arbor. Hardikar’s first day in her new role was Monday.
