Sweden recognizes gender-neutral pronoun in dictionary

“For those who use the pronoun, it’s obviously a strength that it is now in the dictionary.”

—-Sture Berg, an editor for the Swedish Academy’s Svenska Akademiens ordlista (SAOL), a glossary of the Swedish language. Speaking with AFP, Berg announced that the gender-neutral pronoun “hen” had been introduced to the SAOL, joining “hon” (she) and “han” (he), following use by the country’s transgender community and those who don’t identify with a specific gender.
