Ellen suprises gay-straight prom dates with $10,000 checks

“I hope that people actually take into consideration to actually make a difference, because there was a door there for gays, lesbians, bi, transgender people, straight people, there was just a door, and Jacob just roundhouse kicked it down and made a difference.”

Anthony Martinez, following his appearance on Ellen, along with best friend Jacob Lescenski, on Ellen.

Lescenski, who is straight, asked his gay friend to be his prom date at their Las Vegas high school, after learning of his frend’s dismay over never having a date for prom.

The pair appeared on Thursday’s edition of Ellen, in a funny, heartwarming segment. “I didn’t support gay rights then, but I also was not against them,” Lescenski told the host. “Anthony actually was the reason I began to support gay rights.”

DeGeneres then suprised the high school juniors with $10,000 checks toward their college education. The Desert Oasis High School prom is tonight.
