A Colorado lawmaker has claimed that gay people are possessed by a “demonic spirit of lust” that drives them to persecute Christians.

Gordon Klingenschmitt, a Republican member of the Colorado House of Representatives, took to his Pray In Jesus Name program to blast gay people following a court decision in Massachusetts, Right Wing Watch reports.

In the decision, a Catholic school was ruled to have discriminated against a gay man by rescinding a job offer after learning that he was in a same-sex marriage. According to the Boston Globe, Matthew Barrett accepted a job offer at Fontbonne Academy, but the offer was withdrawn just days later after Barrett listed his husband on an emergency contact form.

The Catholic Action League of Massachusetts called the court’s decision “a frontal assault on religious freedom,” and Klingenschmitt clearly agrees. He told his viewers that “there is a demonic spirit here of persecution against the church” and that people are intent on “coming after the church.”

“They’re coming after us. They don’t care about the First Amendment. They don’t care about the Constitution. They just want power,” he declared. “And this is not about sexuality any more, it’s about power and that’s a demonic spirit of lust; not just lust for another man, but lust for power over the Christian people who yearn to breathe free.”
