“Let’s meet face to face and you tell me I’m not worthy.”

Kristin Beck, a former member of the Navy’s SEAL Team 6 and well-known transgender advocate for open military service for LGBTQ people, speaking to Business Insider about Donald Trump.

Beck was responding to news that the president had opted to reinstate the military’s ban on transgender people serving in the military, a move that has drawn widespread condemnation since Trump tweeted the announcement Wednesday morning.

“Being transgender doesn’t affect anyone else,” Beck said. “We are liberty’s light. If you can’t defend that for everyone that’s an American citizen, that’s not right.”

Asked about Trump’s comment that transgender people would be a “disruption,” Beck said, “A very professional unit with great leadership wouldn’t have a problem…. It’s a leadership issue, not a transgender issue.”
