Cincinnati and her neighbor Northern Kentucky were practically built on beer. The city's brewing history is the stuff of legend and even some lore. This walking tour takes you along Cincinnati's Brewing Heritage Trail, starting at the Christian Moerlein Brewery and Malthouse Tap Room. Your guide will share the stories of several Cincinnati breweries as well as the city's past and present brewing traditions, beginning with the men (and boys -- some as young as 6) who built and worked in nineteenth century breweries, enduring dangerous working conditions, grueling hours, and the growing divide between the workers who made the beer and the "Beer Barons" who built fortunes by producing America's best brews. The tour even includes a trek underground into the subterranean lagering cellar of the Schmidt Brothers Brewery -- one of hundreds of such cellars beneath the city streets. You'll emerge with an understanding of how technology and bottled beer started to change the way we drank in the 1900s. Toast to your new knowledge with an included beer at the tour's conclusion.
