Virgin America offers big sale, grows market share

VirginAmericaInFlight3-lg.jpgFlyers have until 11:59 p.m. CT on March 22 to take advantage of discounted fares on Virgin America. The sale is good on flights through Oct. 17.

Sample one-way fares with tax (based on roundtrip purchase) from Washington, D.C. for travel April 10 - June 13 include:

  • San Francisco ... $159
  • Los Angeles ...  $159

Sample one-way fares with tax (based on roundtrip purchase) from Washington, D.C. for travel Aug. 22 - Oct. 17 include:

  • San Francisco ... $199
  • Los Angeles ... $199

Lask week, Virgin America announced that it has added service to Portland International Airport (PDX) as of June 5, with two daily nonstop flights from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and one daily nonstop flight from its home base of San Francisco International Airport (SFO).

In addition, Virgin America recently filed an application with the U.S. Department of Transportation for the right to serve SFO with two nonstop daily flights to Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA). If approved, Virgin America would launch SFO-DCA flights by summer 2012. 

Virgin America is considered one of the top gay-friendly U.S. airlines.  It received a rating of 90 percent on the Human Rights Campaign's 2011 Corporate Equality Index.
