Metro Weekly Rating:

(3 out of 5)
by Kristina Campbell
ALTHOUGH THERE are some sparkling moments in this collection, it's best that the offering is free, because there are some duds among the diamonds.
Backseat Detour (

) and Esme Seeking (

) are both affirming, succinct stories about two young girls in dramatically different settings breaking out of the mold and being themselves. In Backseat Detour, it's worth persevering through all of the discomfort leading up to the smile at the end of the film -- which is infectious. And haven't we all, at one time or another, been bridesmaids who felt like a farce and couldn't wait to get back into comfortable shoes, like in Esme Seeking?
Also showing: Binge Babies at the Truck Stop and Beauteous. (See the Date This shorts program for reviews)
