DIRECTOR SYLVIE VERHYDE taps familiar territory in A Woman's Love, the story of the married Jeanne's (Helene Fillieres) flirtation with disaster in the form of alluring dancer Marie (Raffaela Anderson). Through Jeanne's reintroduction to the world of dance, led by Marie, the two develop a close friendship that quickly blossoms into love. The affair threatens not only Jeanne's stale marriage but her custody of her son, once David discovers his wife is bedding down the delectable dancer.
Will Jeanne risk all for her new love? It's a question as old as the straight-girl-meets-lesbian-siren trope, and it's getting a little too old, frankly. Solid acting from the beautiful leads and a believable script carry the film as far as it goes, but we don't really learn anything new in this retelling of a fable as worn out as an old field hockey jersey.
