DIRECTOR PABLO SOFOVICH does us all a favor in The Favor when he pits a man's sister, Mora (Bernarda Pages), her girlfriend, Roberta (Victoria Onetto), and his own girlfriend, Faustina (Mariana Briski) in an improbable alliance against him in a hilarious attempt to get him to inseminate Roberta. Chaos ensues as Felipe (Javier Lombardo), who has only just found out that his sister is now with a woman, attempts to fend off Roberta's sexual overtures, meanwhile also dealing with whether he has gotten his own girlfriend pregnant after having slept with her only once. In the midst of all this, Felipe's gullible business associate shows up to add to the mix.
All the action takes place, of course, in one pressure-cooker of a night, under the watchful and curious eyes of various neighbors peering through the windows from their own homes. After all, everybody loves a parade. It's a satisfying romp, somewhat reminiscent of an I Love Lucy episode, with those wacky women and their wild schemes catching the unwary male up in their hoopla. Sofovich does a great job maintaining a breathless pace and coordinating the dynamic antics of a fantastic ensemble cast. The Favor will be a favorite.
