THE LADIES OF Chica Busca Chica (Girl Seeking Girl) are sexy, silly and sensational, essentially amounting to Spain's version of The L Word. Fronted by a bartender at a popular lesbian watering hole who can't turn off her seductive wiles, the crew also includes a recently jilted straight (or is she bi-curious?) psychologist, an unstable romantic who's finally bedded the bartender and is not-so-stealthily planning their life together, and a ditzy and self-centered actress who's new to lesbianism and won't stop talking about her sexual discoveries (or anything else directly related to herself).

Through a sampling of eight episodes of the show, viewers easily get hooked on Chica, as readily won over as one of our bartender's conquests, and of course we're left wanting more at the end of the run. (Fear not, more episodes will be on sale through the show's U.S. distributor next month.) It's truly a guilty pleasure, but unlike its American counterpart, it at least has the intellectually redeeming quality of requiring reading -- in the form of English subtitles -- for non-bilingual U.S. viewers. Beyond that, of course, it's the on-screen equivalent of cotton candy: sweet, fluffy, airy, empty calories.

This cast of Sapphic Spaniards isn't groundbreaking or life-changing, but they are awfully fun to watch, good for some laughs, and sure to quell any lesbian soap opera yearnings left lingering after The L Word finale.
