Assaulting Behavior

More attacks and a strike back

The Gay and Lesbian Liaison Unit of the Metropolitan Police Department is reporting that members of the Metro Transit Police responded to an assault at the Minnesota Avenue Metro Station, on the Orange Line, around 8 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 14.

A male complainant suffering from ''minor'' injuries told officers he was attacked by a group of five black males, ages 17 to 21. According to the report, officers ''located and stopped several suspects, however the victim refused to identify any of them as his attackers, because he fears retribution.''

Later that day, at approximately 11:30 p.m., a male, Maryland resident contacted the GLLU to report that he was involved in an altercation in the area of the 1500 block of 17th Street NW, an area of several gay bars and restaurants. The caller reported that he was ''leaving a local bar,'' when a black male, around 30 years old, wearing khaki pants and a grey, blue and white shirt, approached him with a knife and asked for money.

''The victim was able to strike the suspect and knock him to the ground, ending the attack.''

The GLLU stressed in the report that physically challenging suspects, particularly if they are armed, is not recommended. Instead, the GLLU suggests complying with demands and calling 911, ''when it is safe to do so.''

Anyone with information about either incident is asked to call the GLLU pager number at 1-877-495-5995.
