''Mr Baynham was a 62-year-old man who was simply travelling to enjoy a night out with a friend when he was attacked with such tragic consequences.... Homophobic attacks of this severity are extremely rare in Westminster and we are working hard to ensure that the West End remains a safe area for people to enjoy. This was a horrendous attack and completely unacceptable and we will work hard on behalf of Mr Baynham's family to catch those responsible.''
Detective Chief Inspector Clive Heys remarking on the death of Ian Baynham, 62, who was berated with homophobic taunts by a teenage girl, then attacked by her male companion and another girl. It is reported that one of the girls stomped on his head after he was knocked to the ground, and that the three could be seen laughing on crime-monitoring cameras after the incident. Baynham's companion had caught one of the girls at the scene, but another person helped her get free thinking that she was the one being attacked. But the three were arrested after tips poured in once photos appeared on the news. (Guardian UK) (The Independent)
