''Kelli and I love each other very much and we are working on our issues. Those are the only words I am ever going to say. Ever. And that is something that has been agreed upon by all parties.''

Rosie O'Donnell speaking to USA Today and addressing through tearful eyes a recent break-up rumor. The paper reports that the tabloid National Enquirer relayed a piece about her wife, Kelly Carpenter, moving out in August. O'Donnell and Carpenter did marry in a very public and boastful ceremony in San Francisco in 2004 but it was never legally recognized by the state. The defiant push for marriages that occurred at that time in San Francisco and a few other locales around the nation was declared unlawful. Yet when marriages were briefly legalized in California between June and November of 2008, the famous lesbian couple did not appear to be interested in restating their public vows.

The couple have four children which O'Donnell says will continue to be raised by both women. Sadly, their relationship's reported demise comes as little surprise to many, and likely joins a growing list of pioneering ''model'' gay families that were never all they promoted themselves to be -- Ellen Degeneres and Anne Heche, Melissa Etheridge and Julie Cypher, Bob Paris and Rod Jackson, and D.C.'s own Craig Dean an Patrick Gill for example.
