Study shows lesbians discharged from military at proportionally higher rate

''We have always known that women are disproportionately affected by 'don't ask, don't tell. But the Air Force data are particularly troubling and raise questions about why women might be targeted there for persecution under the current policy. Lt. Col. Disler's experience with censorship at the Air Force Academy adds urgency to the need to assess the command climate in the Air Force, as well as to the need to re-examine the costs of 'don't ask, don't tell' more broadly.''

A quote from Dr Aaron Belkin, of The Palm Center at UC Santa Barbara. The quote comes from a press release that's receiving a fair amount of news coverage today, and it also covers the case of Lieutenant Colonel Edith A. Disler, a professor at the Air Force Academy, who says she was admonished for inviting members of the Blue Alliance to discuss issues regarding sexual-minoriites. The Blue Alliance calls itself a support network for lesbian, gay, bi and trans alumni of the US Air Force Academy. (Palm Center) (Blue Alliance)
