Michael Lacey of Montgomery County, MD, who lost his partner Ira Kaye in an automobile accident last year. Lacey testified that he had to pay $30,000 to stay in his own home with the couple's adopted son, and that he forced to pay a tax that no other type of family member would have to pay. It is reported that the Senate Budget and Taxation Committee will bring to the full state Senate floor a bill that could provide same-sex partners equivalent inheritance rights as a legally married couple would receive.
