''To be clear, I refuse to fire anyone for exercising their First Amendment rights, regardless of how popular or unpopular their positions might be.... However, Mr. Shirvell repeatedly violated office policies, engaged in borderline stalking behavior, and inappropriately used state resources, our investigation showed.''
Mike Cox, the Attorney General of Michigan, in a statement put out to explain why his Assistatn, Andrew Shirvell, was fired -- "conduct unbecoming a state employee." (AnnArbor.com)
Cox had initially defended Shirvell's actions against a gay college student. Shirvell has been banned from the University of Michigan's campus, but a restraining order request was dropped by the college student.
