Cable network TV Land is set to premiere Fran Drescher's new sitcom, Happily Divorced. The veteran actress says in promos and interviews that the premise was inspired by her own life. She was married to producer Peter Marc Jacobson for two decades, and after they were divorced, he came out to her as gay. Jacobson is co-writer of the new show.

TV Land describes the show as:

"Happily Divorced" centers around Los Angeles florist Fran (Drescher) as she deals with dating after finding out her realtor husband of 18 years (John Michael Higgins) is gay. Fran juggles her new relationships, while still living under the same roof with her ex-husband. The cast is rounded out by Fran's best friend Judi (Tichina Arnold), her parents Dori and Glen (Rita Moreno and Robert Walden) and her flower delivery employee Cesar (Valente Rodriguez). Written by Fran Drescher and Peter Marc Jacobson ('The Nanny,' 'What I Like About You').''

During an appearance on The View on June 14, Drescher said she has known Jacobson since they were 15, and during their marriage they had a great sex life. Drescher added that she was the one who left the marriage, and told The View's co-hosts that she and Jacobson have a much better relationship today.

Jacobson later told Joy Behar that he grew up learning how to suppress his homosexuality. He added that he was in love with Fran and that three therapists had told him he's not gay. He says he's not currently in a relationship.

Co-star John Michael Higgins, who is married to a woman in real life, has played memorable gay characters before in feature films.
