Cher took to Twitter after this week's fourth edition of Dancing with the Stars. Her son, Chaz Bono, the show's first transgender contestant, made it through another round of scrutiny and physical challenges. Cher was in the audience cheering wildly and tearing up for Chaz, and she hinted later that she may have "1 more cameo up my sleeve." Chaz and his partner, Lacey Schwimmer, received a score of 21 on Monday night for a performance that was inspired by the film Rocky. Cher tweeted:
"OMG! I WAS CRYING ! WASNT EXPECTING 2 B SO NERVOUS ! BROKE MY BRACELET CLAPPING ! IM SO PROUD !! CHAZ WAS GREAT! LOVED DAVID ARQUETTE 2nd."
Over the last few months, Chaz has been questioned by the media about his megastar mom's reaction to being on the reality contest. Chaz has said Cher was very supportive. But he directed further questions back to his mom about her seemingly low-key public support regarding his gender transition. On Tuesday she tweeted:
Last nite was GLORIOUS 4 me ! When Chaz 1st.decided 2 make the Transition I had fear, confusion & yes a little sadness,BUT LAST NITE I
I looked up at him brave! Giving 1001% & I thought ! U R BRAVE STRONG FEARLESS & LOVING PERSON BUT WHAT MOST IMPORTANT.. U R HAPPY !
I KNOW THERE R PEOPLE WHO WILL NEVER C HOW WONDERFUL U R, BUT LAST NITE I CRIED FROM PURE "JOY"! U GAVE EVERYTHING YOURE ALREADY A WINNER
Longtime fitness guru, Richard Simmons was brought in during Chaz Bono's rehearsals to do some cheerleadering while wearing red boxing gloves and a metallic gold tank top. Perhaps it was bad lighting or camera angles, but some viewers were surprised at the 63-year-old's slight physical appearance. A representative, responded to People magazine's inquiry with (People):
"He's the healthiest he's ever been.... He's actually at the weight he was when we launched the original Sweatin' to the Oldies."
Another celebrity contestant, Carson Kressley, has certainly put an entertaining gay face on ABC's family-friendly contest. He performed this week as a glittering "Pirates of the Caribbean" character with partner Anna Tebunskaya. Kressley joked about his attraction to the musclebound swordfighting expert who was brought on to help them with choreography. Though Kressley's team received the lowest score of 20, it was Chynna Phillips and Tony Dovolani who had to exit the competition after receiving the fewest votes. (ABC / Dancing with the Stars)
Kressley, a former Queer Eye for the Straight Guy co-host, has become a favorite talk show guest. You can catch his frequent appearances on daytime programs like Nate Berkus, Wendy Williams and Live! with Regis and Kelly, or at night on CBS's Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson.
