A reporter for gossip site TMZ caught up with WWE wrestler Darren Young at LAX airport. He asked the WWE superstar if a gay wrestler could be successful in that business. Young seemed to surprise the reporter by replying that he was gay:
"Absolutely, look at me. I'm a WWE Superstar, and I'll tell you right now, I'm gay and I'm happy.... Some people might not like it. Some people will like it. But I'm here to please myself.... I'm hoping to be able to make a difference."
According to his official Facebook page, Young first appeared on WWE NXT as part of a group called The Nexus. He is also referred to as "Mr. No Days Off," but his real name is Fred Rosser.
WWE has had issues with anti-gay taunts being used in the past. John Cena once poetically insulted Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson with anti-gay language. And CM Punk was seen on camera calling an audience member "a homo." Both incidents caught the attention of GLAAD in 2011. Later that year, several WWE stars appeared in a public service announcement against bullying of LGBT students.
