The Washington Stage Guild presents the first U.S. production in decades of British essayist and mystery writer G.K. Chesterton's witty fairy-tale of a comedy Magic. The play focuses on an aristocratic family reunion where a hired magician challenges the limits of deception in ways that call both faith and reason into question. Chesterton's friend George Bernard Shaw urged him to write Magic, which inspired Ingmar Bergman's film The Magician. Alan Wade directs a cast including Nick Depinto in the title role. Opens Thursday, Jan. 6, at 7:30 p.m. Through Jan. 30. The Undercroft Theatre of Mount Vernon Place United Methodist Church, 900 Massachusetts Ave. NW. Tickets are $40 to $50.
