"Never too old to contain my rage," Bob Mould sings on the title track to his blistering, bewitching new album Silver Age, out today. He's also apparently not too old to make his Late Show with David Letterman debut, happening tonight. "It's always hard to tell when you're going to get a break like that," Mould told Spotlight. "If you're on the right label at the right time, with a great record, shit happens."
Everything, in other words, is just right right now for Mould: Silver Age marks his debut on Merge Records, and the set harkens back to Mould's most commercially successful album to date, Copper Blue, his 20-year-old debut with his power-pop band Sugar. Mould is currently touring with bassist Jason Narducy and drummer Jon Wurster, reprising Copper Blue from start to finish, as well as playing new material. Catch the tight rhythmic trio perform Mould's new single "The Descent" on Letterman tonight, Sept. 4, and then get ready to see them live at the 9:30 Club this Saturday, Sept. 8, prior to another installment of Mould's Blowoff DJ party with Rich Morel.
