It's Halloween, but if you feel like keeping it classy tonight, instead of a trick head to the Fillmore Silver Spring for a real treat, a concert by the new British soul singer Jessie Ware. Yes, another British soul singer. Unlike Emeli Sande or Paloma Faith, Ware seems more inspired by the subtle stylings of fellow Brits Sade or Tracey Thorn than Aretha Franklin and her gospel-schooled American sisterhood. The Washington Post’s Chris Richards included Ware's album Devotion on his Best of 2012 list – even though technically it wasn’t released in the U.S. until this past spring – calling it a “voluptuous debut, both classy and confident." At a stop this past January at the 9:30 Club, the 29-year-old Ware showed enormous potential but also betrayed her newcomer status, with nerves that occasionally threatened to get the best of her. Almost a full year of touring surely has only given her more confidence. And her return to the area includes opening act Mikky Ekko, the man who sings with Rihanna on her great recent single “Stay.”
Tonight, Oct. 31, at 8 p.m. Fillmore Silver Spring, 8656 Colesville Road, Silver Spring. Tickets are $30.50. Call 301-960-9999 or visit fillmoresilverspring.com.
