Apple has rejoined the EPEAT program, which certifies products as environmentally friendly. Apple had dropped out of the registry in June with no explanation, though speculation surrounded the recently-released MacBook Pros which features a Retina Display and reportedly may not be as easy to recycle. Apple's move led to public criticism, customer outcry, and, in at least one case, a major municipality banning its officials from purchasing Macs.
"I recognize that this was a mistake," said Bob Mansfield, Apple's senior vice president of Hardware Engineering, in a letter on the company's website. "Starting today, all eligible Apple products are back on EPEAT."
