In a rather smart PR move -- and the cynic in me suggests this is more than just automotive goodwill -- Hyundai has announced they are adding payment deferral to their Assurance program which will specifically target federal workers who have been furloughed in the wake of the government shutdown.
For all current Hyundai owners who have been furloughed, Hyundai is deferring all auto loans and lease payments for the duration of the shutdown, stating "We recognize the impact on family budgets that the furlough will drive. Like we did almost four years ago when we launched Hyundai Assurance, this is our way of saying 'We've got your back' during this uncertain time."
As a further measure, any furloughed workers who need to purchase a new car in October will be granted a 90-day deferral on payment. Whether it's good PR or goodwill, Hyundai owners who are currently on unpaid leave will be relieved to know that car payments are now one less thing to worry about.
