DC Council’s David Catania introducing gay & lesbian marriage equality bill Tuesday, October 6

”We are going to do it now. We are going to do it now, not for ourselves, but for the young people who are 20 years-old, 16-years-old, 13-years-old…. Everyone knows where the president is on this issue, but we also know the president has high regard for home rule and local autonomy. And on those grounds we believe the White House should work with us in defending the actions of the local government.”

David Catania, Washington, DC’s Independent Councilmember At-Large announcing that he will be introducing same-sex marriage legislation at the City Council’s upcoming Tuesday meeting. There is some legitimate concern that the proposed legislation will be overturned by socially conservative Republicans along with nervous moderate Democrats in Congress. Religiopolitical operatives have already announced their intention to call for voters of other states to contact their US Senators and Representatives and demand they stand in the way of the nation’s capital from having equal civil marriages.
