Gay Nativity scene busted up by vandals [video]

A Christmas display that included images of lesbian and gay couples has been vandalized according to KTLA 5. The non-traditional “nativity” scene featured a sign that read “Christ Is Born” above the silhouettes of three separate couples — straight, gay and lesbian. Early Christmas morning, the same-sex images were knocked over. John Zachary, the California artist who created the work for Claremont United Methodist Church said his work was meant to convey God’s inclusive plan:

“I wanted it to be clear, and without a doubt, that the gay and lesbian — homosexual community, was just as included in this process as anyone.”

KTLA says the incident is being investigated by Claremont detectives as a hate crime. The Associated Press reports that the damage cost several thousand dollars, and quotes a reverend as saying the church has members who are gay.
