On August 25, 1970, Elton John performed his first show in the United State at West Hollywood’s Troubadour club. John was introduced by “Troub” regular Neil Diamond. John and Diamond are just two of the multitude of musicians who have passed through the doors of the Troubadour, and the Troubadour is just one of the many West Hollywood’s venues that have shaped and continue to influence today’s music.
In celebration of West Hollywood’s rich musical heritage, the West Hollywood Marketing & Visitors Bureau yesterday launched its Summer of Music marketing campaign that includes promoting the city’s extensive summer concert schedule. Fans can stay updated at the relaunched VisitWestHollywood.com, which features extensive calendar listings and expanded music content. The site is also the official home of the Summer of Music Sweepstakes and Original Song Contest.
Music (and West Hollywood) fans can enter to win one of eight weekly prize packages with hotel stays and music-themed gifts, each valued at $400 or more. Participating West Hollywood hotels are Chamberlain, Le Montrose, Le Parc Suites, Mondrian, Petit Ermitage, Ramada Plaza West Hollywood, the Standard and Sunset Plaza Hotel. Or, those wishing to channel their inner rockstar can enter the Original Song Contest with a $5,000 grand prize that includes an Ultimate Rockstar Getaway to West Hollywood during the Sunset Strip Music Festival and $1,000 cash.
West Hollywood’s redesigned website also include information on the city’s vibrant LGBT community and gay-friendly offerings.
