Washington woman charged with ''credit card misuse'' related to homicide investigation

This morning, May 3, police arrested Artura Otey Williams, 46, a resident of the 5300 block of 5th Street NW, in the course of the Brian Betts homicide investigation. Williams has been charged with two counts of credit card misuse, said Lucille Baur, public information officer of the Montgomery County Police Department.

Betts, who was gay, was found dead of a gunshot in his Silver Spring home April 15. Beloved principal at the District’s Shaw Middle School at Garnet-Patterson, Betts, 42, was remembered at a May 1 memorial service in Bethesda.

According to a MCPD statement issued later in the day, “Surveillance photos were obtained of Williams using one of [Betts’s stolen] credit cards on April 16 at the Giant Food located at 1280 East West Highway in Silver Spring.”

As of Monday afternoon, Williams was in D.C. custody awaiting extradition to Montgomery County.

Anyone with information about this crime should contact the Montgomery County Department of Police homicide detectives at 240-773-5070.
