Pride Matchmaker

Just in time for Capital Pride: a gay singles mixer at the Spy Museum

Need a date for Pride? Kim Rosenberg to the rescue.

”We’re partnering with Capital Pride to kick off Pride for singles,” says Rosenberg, president of the new gay matchmaking agency Mixology. Both singles and the community-at-large are invited to the agency’s ”Spy A Spouse” mixer next Thursday, June 3, at the International Spy Museum.

”It’s a mix and mingle for like-minded single professionals,” says Rosenberg. The event will feature a DJ, a cash bar and appetizers, and two free memberships will be given away to the six-month-old agency, which differs from, say, Match.com or other online gay-friendly matchmaking sites. With Mixology, there’s no dot-com.

”Mixology is completely off-line,” Rosenberg says. ”We market to a clientele of professionals who are tired of the bar scene.”

The Pride mixer is an anomaly for the D.C.-based agency — a random event where you literally could spy a spouse. Mixology’s pre-arranged matchmaking, through a multi-tiered screening process, is informed by Rosenberg’s background in psychology as well as the lesbian’s previous work at heterosexual-only international matchmaking agencies. ”I could not believe that nobody did this for the gay community,” says the D.C. native. ”And the response has been unbelievable.

”We’re about helping find somebody for a long-term relationship. And now that they’ve passed the gay marriage law, a lot of people want to get married.

”You’ve got to start somewhere.”

“Spy A Spouse” is Thursday, June 3, from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. International Spy Museum, 800 F St. NW. Tickets are $15 in advance or $20 at the door. Call 888-739-2649 or visit capitalpride.org or readytomix.com.
