‘Vulnerable’ star Margaret Cho gives everything to ‘Dancing: Week 2;’ Judges return a 6-6-6 [video]

“People would not look at me, because I had like this weird, ‘loser energy.’ Like, after they would talk to me, they would use hand sanitizer. It was like they were trying to get the loser off…. It’s actually amazing to discover, you know, this whole thing — that I’m actually a dancer.”

Margaret Cho speaking with her dance instructor and partner Louis van Amstel on an edited video segment for “Dancing with the Stars.” The pair danced a jive very well, but the judges felt her kicks needed to be more accentuated, her shoulders back, and her facial expression not so intense. She received a disappointing score of 18 (of 30), but said it was good if that’s the best they could do. Last week, the judges only gave her a 15 for acting out of character with the show. This week Cho tied Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino, but beat Michael Bolton‘s unfortunate score of 12. Yet, even Bolton wasn’t booed, as was Sarah Palin when she arrived on set. Her daughter Bristol received a 22.  [Update: DWTS host Tom Bergeron says the audience was not booing Palin, but the scores of 8 that star Jennifer Grey had received. Another shot of the judges shows them thinking that the audience expected 9s.]

DANCING WITH THE STARS - "Episode 1101" - The Season 11 star-studded cast and their professional partners get ready to break in their dancing shoes on ABC's "Dancing with the Stars" for the long awaited two-hour season premiere, MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 20 (8:00-10:01 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network. ”I want to stay in the game so badly, so much that I can barely think straight. I know I can dance. I feel it in my bones. I want to do this for myself, the little girl in me who wants to be a beautiful princess…  I want to do this for all the girls who have been told they are not perfect — who have been told they are ugly and fat….

”My body feels sore but also strong and capable. I am doing spins that weren’t possible two days ago. I can feel the floor through my bruised and calloused feet and my body is starting to understand what to do…. Louis is pushing me further and further — I am crying now all the time, not because I am sad, but because I feel like I am really in my body. I didn’t realize how much I have been avoiding being here — how little time I have spent in my skin — for my entire life.”

Comedian Margaret Cho writing several days ago on her personal blog about her rehearsals for the TV show “Dancing with the Stars.” After almost being voted off the show, she seems to have gone through something of a transformation, from an almost defiant, “I’ll do my way — funny, because that’s who I am,” to a more competitive reflection of, “How can I win this?” She says she is still performing on her comedy tour while competing on the show. And, just released, a bit of an interview with Margaret Cho was released. She says she watched “The Brady Bunch” as a kid and realized she was not white. Coincidentally, perhaps, Florence Henderson who played mom Carol Brady is also on “Dancing with the Stars.” The 76-year-old actress scored a 19.
