American Airlines gets a makeover

American Airlines today unveiled a new logo and exterior for its planes, including the already delivered flagship Boeing 777-300ER aircraft set to enter service Jan. 31.

“Our new logo and livery are designed to reflect the passion for progress and the soaring spirit, which is uniquely American,” said Virasb Vahidi, American’s chief commercial officer. “Our core colors — red, white and blue have been updated to reflect a more vibrant and welcoming spirit. The new tail, with stripes flying proudly, is a bold reflection of American’s origin and name. And our new flight symbol, an updated eagle, incorporates the many icons that people have come to associate with American, including the ‘A’ and the star.”

The makeover follows the airline’s recent announcment that it made a profit during the last quarter of 2012.

Still in Chapter 11 bankruptcy, the future of American Airlines is uncertain; however, there is much discussion about a merger with US Airways.

Considered one of the most gay-friendly airlines, American was the first airline to recieve a perfect rating on the Human Rights Campaign’s Corporate Equality Index. American is the only airline to achieve this distinction every year since the Index began in 2002.

USAirways has also earned a 100 percent rating on the Human Rights Campaign Corporate Equality index for six consecutive years.
