Russian legislators ban gay “propaganda” as activists attacked

”Traditional sexual relations are relations between a man and a woman, which … are a condition for the preservation and development of the multi-ethnic Russian people…. It is precisely these relations that need special protection by the state.”

Russian legislator Yelena Mizulina speaking to the Duma in support of a law banning “propaganda of non-traditional sexual relations.” The bill passed 436 to 0 on June 11 while Russian Orthodox and Kremlin youth groups attacked gay-rights protestors outside the Duma. (Reuters)
