“Simply put, Gov. Snyder and Attorney General Schuette are on the wrong side of history when it comes to ensuring equal rights for LGBT Michiganders.”

Rep. Daniel Kildee (D., Michigan) in an online petition intended to persuade Michigan Governor Rick Snyder (R.) and Attorney General Bill Schuette to drop their support of the state’s same-sex marriage ban. Kildee compared Governor Snyder to George Wallace, the former Alabama governor who promoted segregation and denied entry to African American students at the University of Alabama in 1963. A spokeswoman for the state’s Attorney General, who has been more active in supporting the ban than the Governor, asserted that he was “fulfilling his duty to defend the Constitution.”
