Has Barry Manilow married his male partner? (Update: He has!)
“Barry has lived a very secretive life and the wedding was no different! Barry and Garry did not tell friends or family that the occasion was their wedding.”
— A source close to singer Barry Manilow, long rumored to be gay, speaking with the National Enquirer. The gossip magazine is reporting that Manilow married his longtime partner, Garry Kief — Manilow’s manager and president of Barry Manilow Productions. As with anything from the Enquirer, this should be taken with a (huge) pinch of salt, but it certainly would make for an interesting turn of events should it be true.
The ceremony apparently took place at Manilow’s Palm Springs estate, where Kief also reportedly resides. Guests were invited to a luncheon, but when they arrived were told that it was the couple’s nuptials they were attending.
A lack of marriage paperwork was explained as Manilow fearing backlash from fans over his sexuality. “Barry is paranoid that his fans would not approve of him being gay,” the source states. “When in reality, many have suspected it for years — and most wouldn’t care.”
