Welcome to the new year. If you’ve made some resolutions, best of luck in keeping them. They likely have to do with health and wealth. If that’s the case, this calendar is for you.
As social creatures, being engaged in our communities has tangible health benefits. A large network of friends may actually extend one’s life. There are loads of social events already on the 2013 calendar. Gamblers might try a Team DC casino night. The LGBT benevolent might find a lobby day or a DC Center effort that fills the bill.
As for wealth, the value of networking is incalculable – better put a circle around the Capital Area Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce Mega Networking event on March 13.
If you’ve got no resolutions for 2013, you’ll still need diversions. You’ll be glad to know the coming year has got ’em. Keep in mind, however, that no future is certain. Accordingly, all dates listed are subject to change. Should another ”superstorm” threaten to blow down the high heel racers come October, for example, rest assured that Metro Weekly will keep you posted.

Capital Pride Alliance Board President Ashley Smith has stepped down, effective October 18.
Smith was elected board president in 2018, succeeding longtime leader Bernie Delia, who passed away in 2024.
In a brief emailed statement to Metro Weekly, Capital Pride Alliance confirmed Smithās resignation, saying the organization was recently "made aware of a claim" regarding Smith but offered no details about the nature of the claim or the circumstances surrounding his departure.
