Positive Changes at Whitman-Walker Clinic

Three distinguished physicians added to staff of DC's HIV/AIDS Clinic

Officials at Whitman-Walker Clinic announced on Monday, March 20, the addition of three physicians, who will join the staff at the clinic in the coming days.

The new physicians include Richard A. Elion, founding member of the American Academy of HIV Medicine, who will serve as the director of research; Robert J. Ball, a former physician from the Community & Family Medicine clinic in Baltimore, who will work as a staff physician at the Max Robinson Center; and Sarah Henn, the former clinical technical adviser at the Institute of Human Virology in Baltimore, who will also work as a staff physician.

Whitman-Walker also announced that it has been designated as a ”Federally Qualified Healthcare Center Look-Alike,” by the Bureau of Primary Health Care, part of Health Resources and Services Administration. The designation is awarded to clinics that provide medical care to underserved communities. The designation gives the clinic a higher Medicaid reimbursement rate, according to a clinic press release.

”Earning this federal designation and hiring three distinguished new staff within a matter of weeks are a testament to the positive change that is continuing at Whitman-Walker Clinic,” Donald Blanchon, the clinic’s chief executive officer, said in the release. ”These developments show the progress we are making toward becoming a state-of-the-art health center, offering a full range of care to the entire community.”
